Proven research attracts veterinarians to the Provita booth at the AABP

Brazilian veterinarians interested in Provita’s innovative approach to Research and Development

Recent research conducted by Queen’s University, Belfast attracted veterinarians from the world-over to the Provita booth at the Amercican Association of Bovine Practitioners’ Conference.

David Jones, Biomaterial Science Chair, Queen’s University, Belfast recognises that there are many products and chemicals that have been used for footbath solutions. A major difficulty in making an informed choice has been availability of a consistent and reproducible method for testing the performance of each under conditions that would mimic those on farm. Therefore, in testing the solutions, one of the conditions tested was when solid matter is left standing in solution for 24 hours. Copper, formaldehyde and Hoofsure Endurance were tested. Hoofsure Endurance demonstrated a consistent efficacy profile under test conditions while copper and formaldehyde failed to meet the test criteria.

Export Manager, Stephen Haslam commented:

“Canadian and US veterinarians have found dairy farmers to be enquiring more and more about safe alternative footbathing products to copper and formalin with proven efficacy. Veterinarians were interested in the independent research conducted by Queen’s University into footbathing solutions. Veterinarians from Brazil were also fascinated by the technology behind Provita Combat. We are delighted with the response we received to our latest research and will continue to share our expertise at the forthcoming conferences.”

World Dairy Expo a Platform for New US Dealers

Roger Blowey explaining the impact of lameness to US farmers

Provita had a busy few days at the World Dairy Expo in Madison when over 300 industry professionals, including hooftrimmers, farmers and veterinarians visited the Provita booth.

Provita is committed to research and product development and we were proud to sponsor the seminars lead by Roger Blowey.

Roger presented informative and entertaining discussions on hoof care during his three seminars at World Dairy Expo. Roger Blowey’s special interests are preventative medicine and the interaction of nutrition, disease and environment on the productivity of livestock. He has lectured extensively on these subjects over the world and has written numerous original papers and books on a wide range of livestock topics. Dairy farmers and hooftrimmers gleaned in-depth knowledge into the cause and control mechanisms of lameness as well as benefitting from ‘hot off the press’ research on the impact of digital dermatitis.

US Regional Sales Manager, Kevin Marmor commented:

“As a result of the World Dairy Expo, we have acquired five new dealers in the USA. Dairy farmers were keen to find innovative ways of tackling the recurring problem of digital dermatitis (hairy warts). It gave us great pleasure to provide not just the solutions but the information and education necessary to help control this recurring hoof health issue.”

Provita Sponsors Lameness Seminars at World Dairy Expo

Provita is committed to farmer education and is proud to be the sponsor of the lameness hoofcare seminar at the World Dairy Expo, being held at Madison, October 4-9.  Dairy farmers and those involved in the dairy industry are invited to attend the lameness seminar featuring Roger Blowey, in the Waubesa room at 10:30 on 4th, 6th and 7th October. Hooftrimmers can also benefit from Roger Blowey extensive experience in this field and are invited to attend a talk focussing on hooftrimming, hoof structure and hoof trimming techniques in the Kegonsa room, October 5th at 10:30.

Roger Blowey (FRCVS) is a specialist in cattle health and production and is particularly interested in preventative medicine and the interaction of nutrition, disease and environment on the productivity of livestock units. He is the author to the book, Cattle Lameness and Hoofcare and has had experience in helping farmers and veterinarians worldwide battle lameness in dairy cattle.  He will also be available to address individual questions at the end of the conference.
